THE CITY OF FLINT, MICHIGAN HAS NOT HAD CLEAN WATER SINCE EARLY 2014...
WHAT WAS DONE TO HELP?
Bushwick. collected donations to support the UFCW 951 & MEIJER: FLINT WATER PURCHASE PROGRAM. UFCW 951 has arranged for a discounted rate with Meijer for any organization that would like to purchase large quantities of water for Flint. We were able to round up enough money to provide 10,850 bottles of water to the residents!
WHAT IS UFCW 951?
The United Food & Commercial Workers Local Union 951 is a labor union that represents over 33,000 workers in the state of Michigan who are employed by food and commercial companies such as Meijer, Kroger, Rite Aid and more. They have agreed to load and distribute the water that Flint residents will receive.
WHAT IS MEIJER?
Meijer is a corporate grocery store chain in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. They have agreed to provide water at a major discount in partnership with UFCW 951 to get the residents of Flint as much clean water as possible.
HOW DID WE KNOW THIS WAS THE RIGHT INITIATIVE TO DONATE TO?
Bushwick. communicated directly with Mayor of Flint, Dr. Karen Weaver's office to find out all of the ways the city can be helped. Steve Branch, Chief of Staff of the City of Flint, directed us to this initiative and welcomes help from any organization looking to assist in the recovery from this man-made disaster.
